– Eddie’s “JAPAN WAY”- 2013 April
The debut of Fumiaki Tanaka as a starting member for the Highlanders is a step forward in changing the history of Japanese rugby.
Fumi is small but he’s good so we can no longer use the excuse we can’t win because of size!
It does make it harder because rugby is the most physical game in the world but we must find winning advantages not excuses.
Fumi has a good pass, can step, can see where space is, and is courageous in defense – so he has now displaced the All Blacks half back Aaron Smith from the starting team.
There are more Japanese players who can replicate Fumi’s success, but changing the mindset of players is the key.
Players in Japan must get stronger, must get faster, and must be more skillfull – we as a national team are working hard on this.
We had a great camp in the rugby town Sugadaira and just completed 3 days at JISS.
This year we need to improve our attack with better decision making!
We look forward to your support.
