Japan Set to Compete in World Rugby U20 Trophy 2024

Japan’s U20 team is set to compete at the World Rugby U20 Trophy 2024 at Hive Stadium in Edinburgh, Scotland following World Rugby’s announcement on the format of this year’s U20 competitions. Contested between eight teams, the tournament will run across four days between July 2-17.

Japan will be looking to put in a strong performance throughout as they seek to gain promotion back to the U20 Championship after having been relegated following last year’s tournament in South Africa. Drawn in Pool A, Japan will face hosts Scotland, their Asian rugby rivals, Hong Kong China and either Samoa or Tonga, who will compete for the final Pool A spot in the Oceania Play-off on March 8 in Auckland New Zealand.

Naoya Okubo, Japan U20 Team Head Coach commented:

“As a team, we’re really looking forward to this tournament, and we’re excited by the opportunity to be playing Scotland at home in Edinburgh. To win, we must win the battle up-front in the forwards. If we can set a strong platform up-front, we can then challenge with the speed of our backs.” Further information on the U20 Trophy 2024 match schedule, kick-off times, ticketing and broadcast details will be announced by World Rugby in due course.
