The Japan Rugby Football Union is delighted to announce that an U15 girl’s sevens side, playing under the name ‘Japan Rugby Academy’ will represent Japan at the inaugural Rugby Heritage Cup 2023 in Pontlevoy, France. Located in the Loire Valley and surrounded by stunning French countryside, Pontlevoy will play host to the tournament from September 2 to 8, ahead of Rugby World Cup 2023.

More than 700 players from 48 different schools and unions, spanning five continents, will take part in the event. In addition to Japan, teams from Argentina, Australia, Chile, Fiji, France, Georgia, India, Ireland, Italy, the UK, Madagascar, New Zealand, Portugal, Romania, Scotland, South Africa, Tonga, and Wales will also take part.

While the event has a strong focus on rugby via the seven-a-side tournament, players will also need to demonstrate their creativity and ability to work together, as there will be cooking and film-making components to the programme which will also be counted in terms of deciding the ultimate tournament champions.

The tournament aims to teach its young participants the power of cultural mix and diversity by bringing together girls and boys from different origins and include both sporting and cultural activities to enable dialogue, interaction, and cooperation between the students from 19 nations.
