Sakura Fifteen Get Set to Tour Spain

The Japan Rugby Football Union is delighted to announce that the Japan Women’s National Team, the Sakura Fifteen will tour Spain in July to play two test matches against Las Leonas, the Spanish Women’s National Team. Departing Japan on Wednesday, 28 June, the Sakura Fifteen will take on their hosts on 8 and 15 July. Match venues, kick-off times and other details will be announced shortly.

The Sakura Fifteen have played Las Leonas on one prior occasion, at the 2002 Rugby World Cup in Spain. With Las Leonas recording a solid 62-0 win over the Sakura Fifteen, Japan will be looking at this tour as the perfect opportunity to redress the balance and record their first win over their hosts.

The tour to Spain will form a major element of the Sakura Fifteen’s preparations for this year’s WXV 2 which takes place in Cape Town, South Africa across the weekends of 14, 21 and 28 October. The six-team competition is part of World Rugby’s new three-tier annual global women’s international 15s competition.]
