The 57th Japan University Rugby Championship Quarterfinals: Review
The quarterfinals of the 57th Japan University Rugby Championship were played on Saturday, 19 December 2020.
At the Prince Chichibu Memorial Rugby Ground in Tokyo, Keio University faced familiar rivals Waseda University in the early game with Waseda getting the better of the contest with a 29-14 victory. Waseda built up a sizeable 24-7 lead by the break and then outscored Keio five tries to two in the final score line. Meanwhile, Meiji University had a comfortable 34-7 win over Nihon University in the 2 o’clock game in Tokyo. Meiji ran in five tries to one with right wing Takahiro Ishikawa scoring a brace.
At the Higashiosaka Hanazono Rugby Stadium in Osaka, Teikyo University did enough to beat Tokai University 14-8 in the first game. Teikyo led 7-3 at halftime on the back of a penalty try, while in the latter half; both sides scored a try apiece with Teikyo holding on to secure their place in the semi-finals. In the other game in Osaka, a free-running Tenri University outpaced Ryutsu Keizai University 78-17, scoring 12 tries in the process.
