The 57th Japan Rugby Championship Notice of Cancellation

April 2, 2020

The Japan Rugby Football Union has decided to suspend the 57th Japan Rugby Championship which is scheduled to be staged on May 23rd and 30th, 2020. The decision was made given the current status of Novel Coronavirus (COVID019) and expanding infections as it makes the organizers difficult to secure sufficient preparation and safety for spectators, players and staffs to stage the Championship.

Japan Rugby Football Union President, Shigetaka Mori, stated;

The new COVID019 spread has resulted in our decision of suspending of the 57th Japan Rugby Championship. It is not an easy decision to make and very disappointing to suspend such traditional competition for the first time in its long-standing history. We will continue working on what we and rugby can do now to tackle the further outbreak of COVID019.
