Brave Blossoms beat Los Teros 40-0 in final game in Japan before RWC

TOKYO (Aug. 29) – Japan beat Uruguay 40-0 on Saturday at Prince Chichibu Memorial Rugby Ground to ensure they leave for Rugby World Cup 2015 on a winning note.

Six well-worked tries, five of which were converted by the impressive Ayumu Goromaru, also ensured Eddie Jones’ final game in charge of the Brave Blossoms in Japan ended in victory.

It was Goromaru who opened the scoring in the 12th minute, when he finished off some good work from Michael Broadhurst and Luke Thompson to go over in the corner.

Three minutes later, Kosei Ono crossed following a superb kick return from Hendrik Tui, who along with Broadhurst and Thompson was the pick of the Japan pack.

Broadhurst was rewarded for his endeavours when he went over in the 25th and with Goromaru once again adding the extras it was 21-0 at the break.

Japan added three more tries in the second and could have scored a few more but for some resolute defence from Los Teros.

Goromaru turned provider in the 44th minute he slipped a superb pass to free Kotaro Matsushima.

The young Japan wing then set up Hendrik Tui six minutes later before Kenki Fukuoka finished off a good turnover to go over for Japan’s sixth try in the 66th minute.

The final whistle saw the crowd of 11,515 give the Brave Blossoms a standing ovation, as Jones left the field for the last time.

On Monday the Japan coach will name the 31 players who will travel to England, and the team will fly out the following day.
