Peters helps Ricoh down Sanix

TOKYO (Nov. 30) – Ricoh Black Rams moved into third spot in Group B as the opening weekend of the second stage of the 2014-15 Japan Rugby Top League season reached its conclusion on Sunday.

The Black Rams beat Munakata Sanix Blues 21-16 at Global Stadium in Fukuoka to move on to seven points, one behind Kubota Spears and Kintetsu Liners in the second-tier group.

Sanix’s bonus point for losing by seven or less sees them in sixth spot with two points.

The Blues opened the scoring in the fifth minute through a penalty by Dwayne Sweeney, but Daniel Peters soon brought the sides level with a penalty of his own.

Sweeney restored Sanix’s three-point lead in the 14th minute only for Peters and the Black Rams to strike back.

The Ricoh fullback touched down in the 20th minute and then added a second penalty 14 minutes later to give his side an 11-6 lead at the break.

Sweeney was again on target eight minutes into the second stanza, only for Peters to add a third penalty of his own three minutes later.

Colin Bourke all but sealed the win when he crossed in the 67th minute, with Peters adding the extras.

Andrew Everingham finally broke the Ricoh defensive line in the 78th minute with Shusaku Hamazato adding the conversion. But time ran out on the Blues meaning they had to make do with a losing bonus point.

Round 2 sees two games being played on Dec. 6, with the remaining six matches taking place a day later.
