Measures to Prevent the Infectious Spread of Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19)

In response to the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare’s request for efforts to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus, the Japan Rugby Football Union (JRFU) is currently taking the following actions. We apologize for any trouble and inconvenience it may have caused you, but we would appreciate your kind understanding and cooperation amid this current crisis.

–    No media opportunities of any national players and union staff, nor fan services will be conducted during they are in their national team’s activities including training camps (ongoing as of 9 March).

–    Postpone or cancel any workshops and training courses organised by JRFU until the end of March.

–    Postpone or cancel any competitions in high school or younger level until 5 April. The 21st Japan National High School Rugby Football Championship is also cancelled.

–    Cancel the Japan U18 National Team (2019 Japan High School National Team) tour to Wales, which was scheduled from15 to 28 March, including the matches against the Wales U18 National Team on 18 March and against the Wales U19 National Team on 21 and 25 March, and the pre-tour training camp from 11 to 15 March.

–   Cancel the “Asia Sevens Invitational 2020” scheduled to be held at Ajinomoto Stadium in Tokyo on 25 and 26 April.

–  Cancel the “Sanix World Rugby Youth Tournament 2020” scheduled to be held in Fukuoka on 28 April to 5 May.

–   Change some of the existing working operations within JRFU office until further notice;

  1. Staffs are encouraged to work from their homes
  2. Implement flex working hours
  3. Prohibit any nonessential and no urgent meetings and business trips
  4. Encourage healthcare and infection prevention measurements and reporting when s/he feels sick.
