Japan Team Announced to Take on France at U20 World Championships

Japan U20 Coach Rob Penney has announced his team to take on France in Japan’s first match at the 2023 World Rugby U20 Championships in South Africa. Kicking off at 14:00 South African local time (21:00 JST) on Saturday, 24 June, Japan will face the top seeded French side and reigning U20 World Champions in their first of two tournament matches at the Danie Craven Stadium in Stellenbosch, just outside Cape Town.

Captained by Yoshiki Omachi from Teikyo University at inside-centre, the team faces a tough first match against a French side sure to be brimming with confidence as they seek to claim their third World Championship title in a row. Japan will be looking to impose their brand of fast paced, attacking rugby with strong interplay between their forwards and backs as they look to mitigate the large and physical French pack.
