Sakura Sevens Squad Announced for Thailand 7s
The Japan Rugby Football Union is pleased to announce the Sakura Sevens squad for the Thailand 7s, the first of three tournaments making up the Asia Rugby Women’s Seven Series 2022. Taking place in the Thai capital on October 22 and 23, the tournament will be followed by the Korea 7s in Incheon, on November 12 and 13 and the UAE 7s in Dubai, on November 26 and 27.
Held since 2009, the Asia Rugby Sevens Series is the region’s premier rugby sevens tournament, playing a key role in the development of the sport in Asia and providing a pathway to qualification for World Rugby’s men’s and women’s series, as well as the Olympic Games.
The Thailand 7s will be the first tournament the Sakura Sevens take part in following their 9th place finish at the Rugby World Cup Sevens 2022 in Cape Town last month. The new look squad sees some fresh talent come into the national team setup, with Hanako Utsumi, Yuki Sue, Miho Matsunaga and Yasui Sayo set to play in the team for the first time.
