Sakura Sevens Announce Team for Rugby World Cup Sevens 2022
The Japan Rugby Football Union is pleased to announce the Sakura Sevens team selected for the Rugby World Cup Sevens in Cape Town, South Africa. Taking place over three days, from September 9 to 11, the Rugby World Cup Sevens brings together 16 of the best national women’s sevens teams, while 24 teams will compete in the men’s competition.
In their first match, Japan will face sevens specialists Fiji on September 9, with the match kicking off at 20:17 JST. The winner will go on to compete in the Championship category, while the losing side will compete in the Challenge category. The match will be live streamed via the Rugby World Cup Sevens website. Sakura Sevens Head Coach Takashi Suzuki’s commented:
“We will take on the world’s best and show the development of the Sakura Sevens during this once in four year opportunity to play on our sport’s biggest stage. The tournament will be the Sakura Seven’s fourth consecutive Rugby World Cup Sevens, having qualified for every World Cup since the inaugural women’s event back in 2009, in Dubai. The team will be looking to improve on their 10th place at the 2018 event in San Francisco, their best result to date
