Japan Set to Face Scotland in Autumn Test Match

The Japan Rugby Football Union is pleased to announce that Japan’s National Rugby Team, the Brave Blossoms, will return to Edinburgh for a second time in 2021, when they play Scotland at BT Murrayfield on November 20. This will be the first time for the two nations to meet following their historic pool match in Yokohama at Rugby World Cup 2019. The last match of the tournament’s pool stage saw Japan win 28-21, to go undefeated in Pool A and progress to the knockout stages of Rugby World Cup for the first time.

The Japan National Team Director, Yuichiro Fuji commented.:

“We’re excited to be facing Scotland this Autumn in Edinburgh, in what will be our second visit to this historic stadium in 2021 following our match against the British & Irish Lions on June 26. As a team we have a lot respect for Scotland and know they will be incredibly tough at Murrayfield, in front of their home fans and at the home of Scottish Rugby. Scotland will no doubt be out to avenge their loss at Yokohama in 2019, so our preparation leading into the game will be crucial.

“With three tough away-matches confirmed against the British & Irish Lions, Ireland and now Scotland, our performance in 2021 will be a barometer for how the Brave Blossoms are progressing in our goal to be recognised as a genuine top-level rugby nation.”

The kick-off time for the November 20 test match will be announced once confirmed.
