Taiyo Seimei Women’s Sevens Series 2021
Japan Rugby Football Union has announced that “Taiyo Seimei Women’s Sevens Series 2021” will be held in May and June, 2021. The series will kick off with its Tokyo Round on Saturday, May 1 and 2 and go around the Shizuoka Ecopa round, Kumagaya round, and Suzuka round and in total 4 rounds will be taking place.
The series was canceled due to the COVID-19 last year.
This year’s series will be held with introducing COVID-19 protocols and other appropriate prevention measures.
Information for spectators will be announced as soon it is available.

Tournament Format:
【Pool Phase (Day 1)】
The pool phase will consist of a round robin in which the following number of winning points will be awarded to each pool phase match:
Win: 3 points Draw: 2 points Default: 0 points
At the completion of the pool phase, the teams in a pool are ranked based on their cumulative winning points.
If at the completion of the pool phase two teams are level on winning points, then the winner of the match in which the two tied teams have played each other in pool phase shall be the higher ranked.
If the match in which the two tied teams have played each other in pool phase has ended in a draw, or, if at the completion of the pool phase more than three teams are level on winning points, then the following criteria shall be used in the following order in order to rank the teams.
(i) The team which has the best difference between points scored for and points scored against in all its pool matches shall be the higher ranked.
(ii) The team which has the best difference between tries scored for and tries scored against in all its pool matches shall be the higher ranked.
(iii) The team which has scored most points in all its pool matches shall be the higher ranked.
(iv) The Team which has scored most tries in all its pool matches shall be the higher ranked.
(v) Should the tie be unresolved at the conclusion of steps (i) through (iv), a coin toss will be conducted to determine the ranking.
【Knock-out Tournament(Day 2)】
The first two teams in each pool and the first two teams in the third-ranked teams in each pool, eight teams in total, will progress to the Cup Tournament, while the bottom team in the third-ranked teams in each pool and fourth-ranked teams in each pool, four teams in total, will progress to the Challenge Trophy Tournament.
• If the scores are tied at the conclusion of the match, then extra time shall be played on a sudden death basis to determine the winner of the match.
• Following an interval of 2 minutes, extra time of 5 minutes each way shall be played.
• At the end of each period, teams swap ends with no interval.
• The 5-minutes period shall repeat until one of the team scores (a drop goal, penalty goal or try).
• A coin toss will be conducted by the referee with the attendance of the team managers before the start of extra time.

Cup winner: 20 points / Runner-up: 18 points / Third team: 16 points / Fourth team: 14 points /
Fifth team: 12 points / Sixth team: 10 points / Seventh team; 8 points / Eighth team: 6 points /
Nineth team: 4 points / Tenth team 3 points / Eleventh team: 2 points / Twelfth team: 1 point
Series Ranking:
1) The team which is awarded most series points shall be the higher ranked.
2) If two or more teams are level on series points, then the following criteria shall be used in the following order until one of the teams can be determined as the higher ranked:
(i) The team which has the best difference between points scored for and points scored against through the series shall be the higher ranked.
(ii) The team which has the best difference between tries scored for and tries scored against through the series shall be the higher ranked.
(iii) Should the tie be unresolved at the conclusion of steps (i) and (ii), the higher ranked team shall be determined by lottery drawing,
