The 2018 Rugby World Cup Sevens is the seventh edition of the tournament. It will be held at the AT&T Park in San Francisco in the United States from Friday 20 to Sunday 22 July 2018. Both men and women will compete at the World Cup. There are 24 teams in the men’s competition and 16 teams in the women’s competition. Japan have qualified for both the men’s and women’s tournaments.
For the first time, the 2018 Rugby World Cup Sevens will be a knock-out only format.
Teams competing in the men’s tournament are: Argentina (7), Australia (6), Canada (10), Chile (17), England (4), Fiji (2), France (11), Hong Kong (19), Ireland (16), Jamaica (22), Japan (15), Kenya (9), New Zealand (3), Papua New Guinea (23), Russia (14), Samoa (13), Scotland (8), South Africa (1), Tonga (24), Uganda (20), Uruguay (18), the USA (5), Wales (12) and Zimbabwe (21).
Teams seeded one to eight automatically qualify for the round-of-16 Championship Cup. Teams seeded nine to twenty-four play through the Championship Cup Qualifying Round. Japan play Uruguay in the Qualifying Round.
