The Japan Rugby Football Union is happy to announce the tournament outline and the schedule for “The 57th Japan University Rugby Championship” which will start on November 21th (Sat) 2020.

Law of the Game

1, The tournament will be played according to the World Rugby’s Law of the Game 2020.
2, A match time will comprise two-halves of 40 minutes with a half time period of 12 minutes.
3, Time-keeper system will be implemented for the entire tournament.
4, Television Match Official will be implemented only for the Final match.
5, When a penalty try (PT) is awarded to a team, the team will score 7 points without attempting a conversion. In case of need for counting the number of tries and conversions scored under the Match Regulations, a PT will be considered as a try and a conversion.

Tournament Regulations

1, The competition will be a tournament format.
2, When teams are tied at fulltime, then the team to advance to the next stage will be determined through the following sequential criteria:

A) The team which scored a greater number of tries in that particular match will advance to the next stage.
B) If the above A) does not determine the team to advance, the team which scored a greater number of conversions in that particular match will advance to the next stage.
C) If the above B) does not determine the team to advance, the team to advance the next stage will be determined by lot. After the completion of the match and in the presence of the Match Commissioner, the Referee and the Match Manager, the captains of the two teams will draw lots. The preliminary drawing will determine the order of drawing first, then the main drawing will take place.

3, If the Final match ends in a tie, regardless of the number of tries and conversions scored, both teams will be declared as the winners of the tournament.

Award Ceremony

An Award Ceremony will be held to honour the champions and the runners-up.

Ticketing

Matches of Round 1 and 2 will be held with no spectators. Matches of Round 3 and later stages will go on sale. * Further information on the tickets will be published as they become available.
