Toulouse Named as Brave Blossoms’ RWC2023 Official Base Camp

The Japan Rugby Football Union is pleased to announce that Toulouse has been selected as the Brave Blossoms’ Official Base Camp for Rugby World Cup 2023. The city will also play host to two of Japan’s four RWC2023 pool matches, with the Brave Blossoms taking on the Americas 2 qualifier on Sunday, September 10, and Samoa on Thursday, September 28, at Stadium de Toulouse.

Located in the south-west of France, Toulouse is already well known to the Brave Blossoms, with the team having prepared and played there against Tonga, during their European tour in 2017. Toulouse also hosted Japan’s Rugby World Cup 2007 pool match against Fiji. Japan took the eventual 2007 quarter finalists all the way, narrowly losing the match 35-31. Famous as a stronghold of French rugby, the people of Toulouse are well known for their passion and love of rugby.

Commenting on the announcement, Brave Blossoms Head Coach Jamie Joseph said:

“We are delighted that Toulouse has been selected as our RWC2023 base camp. It will be a great honour to have the people of Toulouse welcome our national team and we would like to thank everyone involved for their kind support. We were lucky enough to hold a training camp in Toulouse during our 2017 tour, where we were warmly welcomed by the local people and were able to experience the excellent facilities and environment the city has to offer. We are delighted to be returning to this beautiful city in preparation for RWC2023. Being the centre of French rugby, with a rich history and culture, we are sure that fans who come to Toulouse to support the Brave Blossoms will enjoy their stay and receive the same hospitality that we experienced back in 2017. Thank you, Toulouse for your continued support of our Brave Blossoms.”
