Fifteenth Place play-off Game for Japan Men

On Friday, Japan beat Uruguay 33-7 in the Championship Cup Qualifying Round before losing 35-10 to Fiji in the Championship Cup round of 16.

On Saturday, Japan moved into the Challenge Trophy where they lost 35-17 to Canada in the quarterfinals.

On Sunday morning, Russia beat Japan 26-20 in the semi-finals of the play-offs for thirteenth place.

Later in the day, in their final game at the tournament, Japan beat Kenya 26-14 in the play-off for fifteenth place. Samuel Oliech started the scoring in the play-off, but Japan responded with tries to Ryoya Kano and Josefa Lilidamu to take a 12-7 lead into the break. Kenya hit the front early in the latter period through Jeffery Oluoch, but five pointers to Kameli Soejima and Jone Naikabula closed out the game for Japan.
