Challenge Trophy Semi-final Game for Japan Women

On Friday, in the Championship Cup, the Sakura Sevens fell to France 33-7 in their opening game before beating Brazil 19-14 in the Challenge Trophy quarterfinals.

On Saturday, Japan played Fiji in the Challenge Trophy semi-finals, coming home with a narrow 15-14 victory.

Fiji got on the scoreboard first with a converted try to Raijeli Daveua, but Japan responded with a five pointer through Honoka Tsutsumi to trail 7-5 at the break.

Fiji extended the lead in the second half with a try to Asinate Ufia Savu and looked to be on the road to the win at 14-5. However, late tries to Noriko Taniguchi and Chiharu Nakamura scored Japan a one-point win.

Japan progress to the Challenge Trophy final where they play England later on Saturday.
