Challenge Cup Quarterfinal Game for Japan Men

On Friday, Japan beat Uruguay 33-7 in the Championship Cup Qualifying Round before losing 35-10 to Fiji in the Championship Cup round of 16.

On Saturday, Japan moved into the Challenge Trophy where they lost 35-17 to Canada in the quarterfinals.

Canada ran in five converted tries to lead 35-0 early in the second half before taking the foot off the accelerator. Japan finished with three tries through Kameli Soejima, Ryota Kano and Jone Naikabula to narrow the final difference to 35-17.

For Canada, Justin Douglas and Matt Mullins both scored braces while Nathan Hirayama scored the remaining try to go with his five straight conversions.

Japan now move into the semi-finals of the play-offs for thirteenth place where they face Russia on Sunday morning.
