Second Win for Japan High Schools in Ireland

After losing their opening game 17-7 to Munster Under-19s in Limerick last Wednesday, the Japan High Schools chalked up their first win on their tour of Ireland when they beat Connacht Under-19s 24-10 at the Galway Sportsground in Galway on Sunday. On Wednesday, Japan High Schools beat Ulster Under-19s 20-5 in Belfast for their second win on tour. The game was played over 35 minute halves with no restrictions on the use of interchange players.

In a tight first half, both sides scored a try apiece to tie up the scoreboard at 5-all at the break. Despite receiving a yellow card early in the latter half, the Japan High Schools scored two tries, a conversion and a penalty to run out 20-5 winners.

In strong wind and rain, the visitors gave away numerous penalties in the opening half, but concentrated well to establish their game plan. In the second half, the Japan High Schools used the wind and built on their efforts of the first half to dominate their opposition on the score sheet. The Japan High Schools now have two wins in a row and this sets the stage for the final game of the tour against Ireland Under-19s in Dublin on Saturday.
